Lone Peak High School is seeking parent volunteers for a new lunchtime humanitarian service program beginning in September, according to a September 4 statement. The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to serve others in a positive and safe environment during their lunch hour every Thursday.
The Lunchtime Humanitarian Service Program involves projects that are donated to local and international humanitarian organizations. Past projects have included making blankets for refugee and homeless children, sending supportive letters to soldiers and veterans, and creating toys and educational materials for children in refugee camps. Other activities have involved making sleeping mats for local homeless and refugee camps, knitting hats on looms for refugee and homeless families, and creating educational materials for children in need within Utah Valley.
Parent volunteers assist students with the various projects and help them learn the necessary skills. The program aims to help students build self-esteem and interact well with one another while serving others together. While regular attendance is encouraged, volunteers are not required to attend every week.
