President Russell M. Nelson, the 17th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced the Dublin Ireland Temple on Oct. 6, 2024. The announcement occurred during the Sunday afternoon session of the October 2024 general conference.
The Dublin Ireland Temple will be the first Latter-day Saint temple in Ireland. At the time of the announcement, the Republic of Ireland contained more than 4,000 Latter-day Saints across 13 congregations.
Stake President Mark A. Coffey stated that members are absolutely thrilled about a temple for Ireland. He noted that while the temple was announced for Dublin, it will serve as a huge blessing to members across Ireland. Coffey mentioned that members face challenges traveling to the Preston England Temple or the London England Temple due to travel costs and visa restrictions, which particularly affect new members and young adults.
Details regarding the site location, architectural rendering, or groundbreaking for the Dublin Ireland Temple have not yet been released. Before this announcement, the closest temple to Dublin was the Preston England Temple, located approximately 150 miles across the Irish Sea.
