The restrictions follow a statewide state of emergency declaration issued by Governor Spencer Cox, aimed at mitigating risks posed by exceptional drought conditions across Utah.
Lindon Implements Total Fireworks Ban
In Lindon, the city has implemented a total prohibition on the discharge of any personal fireworks within all areas of the city. According to a June 23, 2026, news flash from the City of Lindon, the decision follows an Executive Order from Governor Spencer Cox that declared a State of Emergency due to the imminent threat of wildfire. The Governor directed the Utah State Forester to prohibit the discharge of all consumer fireworks throughout the state during the legal Independence Day period, which spans July 2 through July 5.
Protecting Local Resources and Residents
City officials in Lindon noted that previous maps published by the city, which identified permissible areas for firework discharge, are temporarily suspended under the new statewide ban. The city's decision to support the Governor's order was made after close consultation with the local Fire Chief, who confirmed that dangerous conditions currently exist and expressed full support for the emergency declaration.
Ongoing Monitoring of Fire Conditions
Lindon officials cited exceptional drought, critically dry vegetation, and numerous fields and pastures within city limits as primary drivers for the restriction. The city also noted that firefighting resources are already stretched statewide. To mitigate risk to residents, neighborhoods, mountains, open spaces, and first responders, the city is encouraging families to save their fireworks for the New Year's holiday when significant fire danger has passed.
Torrey Cancels Holiday Fireworks Display
In Torrey, the extreme fire conditions have resulted in the direct cancellation of a scheduled fireworks presentation for its July 4 celebration. The Town of Torrey announced that while other elements of the Apple Days 2026 program, themed "Ribbons of History," would proceed, the fireworks display was removed from the schedule due to the high risk of fire.
Apple Days Schedule Continues
Despite the cancellation of the fireworks, the Torrey Apple Days schedule for July 4 includes several other community events. These include a 5K Race for the Apple starting at 6:45 a.m., an Apple Days Parade on Main Street from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and a car show held at the LDS Church Lot from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A local vendor market and food truck area will also be active in the Town Park during the midday hours.
F-35 Flyover Approved for Torrey
A major highlight for the Torrey celebration remains an approved aerial demonstration. Four U.S. Air Force F-35s have received final approval to fly over Torrey at approximately 9:25 a.m. on July 4 as part of the America250 festivities. This flyover is scheduled to take place during the ongoing Apple Days event, which also features a community dinner and star party held on July 3.
Future Firework Restrictions Pending
As of mid-July, the State Forester is expected to re-evaluate fire conditions following the Independence Day holiday. This evaluation will determine whether further restrictions will be placed on the discharge of fireworks for the upcoming Pioneer Day holiday.
