The Scipio Town Council met on July 16, 2026, to address several town priorities, including a significant grant for the Scipio Ambulance Department and updates regarding fire department resources and municipal infrastructure.
Nancy Robinson from the Scipio Ambulance Department reported that the department received a competitive grant totaling $74,450. The funds are designated for EMT retention, with $70,000 allocated for that purpose, and approximately $4,450 for the purchase of 10 new pagers.
During the meeting, Casey Draper reported that the town paid for fire department shoes from Garys Shoes. The Council also agreed to insure a 2008 Dodge Dakota crew cab provided by the County to the Scipio Fire Department, which may serve as a town truck, chase vehicle, or for hauling supplies.
Jess Peterson reviewed several town priorities, including General Plan compliance, Utah data privacy requirements, and a land-use checklist. Other items discussed for moving forward included a CIB application, annexation policy, subdivision ordinance, and a Water Master Plan.
Regarding public works, Porter Monroe reported that monthly water samples passed and a fire hydrant at the rodeo grounds has been repaired. A water meter installation project is also continuing throughout the town.
In the parks and cemetery discussion, the Council decided to have Austin work on fixing or replacing a lawn mower motor after discussing costs for a new motor and a new mower. Additionally, the Council noted that a cattle guard at the cemetery is beginning to settle and requires investigation for possible repairs.
The Council also discussed upcoming events for July 24, including a dunk tank run by the Fire Department and a cakewalk led by Mayor Kasey Brunson. The meeting was adjourned at 8:11 PM.
