Saratoga Springs has introduced a new course titled Saratoga 101 to help residents better understand local government. According to a notice on the city's website, the program is designed to show how elected officials and city staff work together to provide services and meet the needs of the growing community.
The six-week course covers several aspects of municipal operations, including how city government is structured and the specific roles of elected officials and staff. Participants will learn how decisions are made, how residents can participate in the process, and how zoning, the General Plan, and city code guide the community's future.
Additional topics include the development process from idea to approved project, and how the city plans and pays for infrastructure and services. The course also addresses how Saratoga Springs collaborates with state, county, school districts, and other agencies to address regional needs and defines the responsibilities of the city versus other government entities.
The course was scheduled to run from September 30 to November 4, with weekly sessions held on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 PM. Classes were held in the Timpanogos Room on the second floor of City Hall, located at 319 S Saratoga Rd, with some time potentially spent touring other city facilities.
Class size for the course was limited to 25 students. Because the program is intended to provide full benefit, attendees were asked to plan on attending the full six weeks of the weekly one and a half hour commitment.
