A 5,9-year-old man was arrested Friday evening after an armed confrontation at a Bluffdale hotel. Bluffdale police were dispatched to the Woodsprings Suites near 1478 W. 14000 South at approximately 6:43 p.m. following reports of a medical incident where a male had reportedly shot himself in a bathroom, according to Lt. Zach Robinson of the Bluffdale Police.
During the response, officers entered the man's room and encountered him with a firearm. This led to a brief standoff where officers retreated from the room as the man allegedly fired a round inside the bathroom.
Lt. Robinson stated that after a short period, the man approached the front door of the hotel room presenting a revolver around the door. The cylinder of the weapon was open and contained no rounds. Officers disarmed the man and took him into custody.
Police confirmed that no one in the room had been shot, though they did find that a couple of rounds had been fired. After checking other rooms on all floors, officers found no injured parties. The man was transported to the Salt Lake County jail for booking. Officers from several nearby agencies assisted with the response.
