The Skyridge Falcons girls soccer team responded to an early Region 3 loss with a 3-0 shutout victory over ranked American Fork on Thursday, Sept. 3, according to a September 9 report.
Skyridge secured the home win two days after falling 2-0 to Lehi on Tuesday, Sept. 1, in their respective Region 3 openers.
The Falcons maintained control of the match against American Fork, a team that entered the game having lost only once in nine matches. Junior midfielder Ke'ilani Nawahine opened the scoring with an olimpico goal, curling a corner kick directly into the net, as reported by the Sporting News.
Sophomore midfielder Lily Boren doubled the lead before halftime with a strike from just outside the 18-yard box, assisted by junior midfielder Hallee Sheffield. Senior forward Cambri Condie completed the scoring in the second half after receiving a pass from senior defender Eva Lewis.
Coach Jhoan Alvizo credited the team's intensity off the ball for their ability to win possession quickly and praised senior defenders Gracie Watts and Leah Arnell for anchoring the shutout. Alvizo stated that the players responded well to adversity and followed the game plan.
Skyridge is scheduled to host Lone Peak on Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m. to continue Region 3 play, followed by a game against Corner Canyon on Thursday, Sept. 17, also at 3:30 p.m.
The victory allows the Falcons to split their first two Region 3 matches of the season.
