Cakes by Edith has been named the 2026 Small Business of the Year by the South Valley Chamber. The business is scheduled to be recognized at the South Valley Chamber’s annual Titan Awards on Oct. 27 at The Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City.
Cakes by Edith has served the South Valley for nearly two decades by providing handcrafted pastries that combine Mexican and American traditions. The business began as a dream for Edith and Jorge Lopez and has evolved into a family-operated company. Their daughters, Alma and Diana, joined the business after earning degrees from Utah Valley University.
Alma Lopez, a co-owner and head cake decorator, stated that being named Small Business of the Year is an incredible honor. She noted that the recognition serves as a reminder that anything is possible through hard work, dedication, and passion. Lopez credited the achievement to the support of loyal customers, the community, and the company's employees.
Jay Francis, the President and CEO of the South Valley Chamber, said the organization aims to provide small businesses with the recognition they deserve. He stated that Cakes by Edith represents perseverance, heart, and community spirit.
The Small Business of the Year Award was established in 2022 to honor small businesses demonstrating exceptional commitment to their employees, customers, and community. The Titan Awards, a South Valley Chamber tradition since 2009, also recognizes various community leaders and businesses.
Cakes by Edith will be presented with the award alongside other Titan Award honorees, including Andrea Kendell, President and CEO of Swire Coca-Cola, USA; Fraser Bullock, president and executive chair of the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games organizing committee; and Jim Olson, president of the Utah Jazz for Smith Entertainment Group (SEG).
Cakes by Edith operates locations in Riverton and Taylorsville. The South Valley Chamber supports business growth across Sandy, Draper, South Jordan, Riverton, Cottonwood Heights, Herriman, and Bluffdale.
