The University of Utah is set to shutter its Sandy satellite campus at the end of this year, according to a report published August 25.
The closure is expected to affect more than 600 students currently enrolled in classes at the location.
In a statement released Friday, the university said the decision was approved this spring. The move is part of a plan to cut and reallocate resources following a state-mandated budget directive that affects all of public higher education.
Most students were not notified of the closure until last week. This follows an announcement made last month by the university that encouraged students to enroll at the Sandy campus, describing it as a convenient way to complete degree requirements and general education outside of the main campus.
The decision comes as part of broader resource reallocation efforts within the university system.
