The first Harmful Algae Blooms of the season have been detected in Utah Lake at Lincoln Marina and the Saratoga Springs Marina Picnic Area.
Health officials closed Lincoln Beach and Marina at Utah Lake because a toxic algal bloom tested 14 times greater than levels measured one week ago.
The Utah Lake Authority announced on Monday that the HAB season has officially arrived.
While officials stated there is no need to be scared, they advised following specific safety guidelines. Residents should not drink the water and must avoid swimming, wading, or jet and water skiing. Additionally, people should avoid paddling in areas containing algae.
The Utah Lake Authority noted that fishing remains okay if the skin and guts are discarded, and boating is still permitted.
