The Summit County Library Coalville Branch has announced a new pilot program designed to offer extended access to its library facility. The program allows patrons to use the space, browse materials, pick up holds, and utilize library computers and Wi-Fi during hours when staff may not be present on-site.
This initiative makes the Coalville Branch the first library in Utah to implement such a program. The project is funded by an LSTA federal grant administered by the State Library for a period of three years.
The extended hours are scheduled as follows:
From 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Monday through Friday.
From 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Thursday.
From 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturdays.
These hours are in addition to the normal operating hours and curbside hold delivery, which occur Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
To ensure safety, security cameras have been installed throughout the library. A speaker system is also in place to announce when patrons need to exit the facility. Additionally, because the Health Department is present in the facility starting at 8:00 AM Monday through Friday, officials stated they want people to feel safe entering the space.
Staff from the Kimball Junction Branch will be available during the extended evening and Saturday hours to periodically check security cameras and answer phone calls if patrons require assistance.
Registration is mandatory for the program. Adult patrons with accounts in good standing may participate by signing a waiver. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult at all times.
Interested individuals can register by speaking with a Coalville Branch Librarian during normal operating hours. Appointments can also be requested through the library's Ask a Librarian Form.
