A 22-year-old college student was killed by Pennsylvania police who were responding to a potential burglary, according to a report published August 26. Glenwood Pysher IV reportedly went to the wrong house and was waiting for friends to pick him up when he was shot, his father stated.
The Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office stated that Upper Pottsgrove Township police responded to a 911 call regarding a possible attempted burglary around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Police found Pysher at the back of the residence and subsequently shot and killed him.
Pysher's father, Glen Pysher, said his son and friends had been at several bars that night and were intending to stay at two different houses before his son became lost in the woods. Based on accounts from friends, Pysher believed his son tried to enter a friend's house by mistake.
Glen Pysher stated that his son was not carrying weapons, but only a phone and a backpack containing clothes and some beers. He noted that the student tried to open the door and shouted for someone to open it, believing he was at a friend's home.
According to Montgomery County Department of Public Safety dispatch records, police were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. and arrived at 12:34 a.m. Pysher's father reported that his son was on a video call with friends at 12:32 a.m., and they were informed he had been shot at 12:35 a.m.
Upper Pottsgrove Township Police Chief Al Werner declined to release information, including the names of the officers involved, until the investigation is complete. The Montgomery County Detective Bureau is currently investigating the shooting.
Pysher was entering his final year at Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey, where he planned to play baseball and eventually become a history teacher and high school coach.
His father described him as a kind and loving person who enjoyed helping others. The family has reported that police have provided very little information regarding the incident.
