The Sanpette County Commission has enacted a temporary moratorium on all construction and development projects that access Pine Creek Road. This action, which went into effect June 16, 2026, prohibits the acceptance or processing of building permit applications for projects involving this roadway.
According to the county, the moratorium is intended to address various concerns including road capacity, public safety, roadway design, WUI requirements, and emergency access and egress. Additional studies and evaluations are required before any further development can be considered.
The Sanpete County Planning Commission continues to hold regular meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. To be placed on an agenda, applications must be submitted and approved at least 21 days before the scheduled meeting date.
All zoning applications are managed through a digital portal where users can register for accounts to submit materials, track project status, and view comments. The county also provides various maps and resources online, including the Sanpete County Subdivision Map, Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Map, and an interactive Public Access Roads Map.
The county also maintains Agriculture Protection Areas (APAs) designed to preserve agricultural land and support farming and ranching viability. While these areas do not change property zoning or prohibit development, proposed land use changes may be reviewed for compatibility with surrounding agricultural activities.
For those seeking agricultural use exemptions, approval must be obtained before construction begins. These exemptions are only available for structures used exclusively for agricultural purposes as defined by state and county regulations.
