Alpine School District is celebrating head custodians Chris Atherton and Kaden Kloeppel in honor of National School Custodian Appreciation Day on Oct. 2, according to an Oct. 1 statement.
The district recognized the two employees for their extraordinary commitment to student safety and school culture across their respective campuses.
Chris Atherton, the head custodian at Lake Mountain Middle School, was noted for his role as a campus first responder. Lake Mountain Middle Assistant Principal Joy Peterson stated that Atherton recently assisted a student during a shop class accident by providing bandages and helping the student to the hospital.
Peterson described Atherton as a vital pillar of the community who also coaches basketball and maintains a strong relationship with students.
At Sage Hills Elementary, head custodian Kaden Kloeppel was recognized for going above and beyond his standard responsibilities. Sage Hills staff member Terri Rigby noted that Kloeppel builds meaningful relationships with students during lunch and participates in faculty performances.
Rigby also stated that Kloeppel often visits the building on weekends to ensure the campus remains secure and maintains an upbeat attitude even during difficult moments such as campus floods.
The district noted that these individuals exemplify the culture of excellence they aim for in all Alpine School District schools. Their daily actions and emergency responses provide peace of mind to parents regarding the safety and uplifting of students.
