Timpview High School has been ranked as the 9th best high school in the state of Utah by U.S. News and World Report, according to a podcast episode from the Provo City School District. Principal Momi Tu’ua joined Superintendent Wendy Dau to discuss the achievement and the school's specific community goals.
Tu’ua noted that among comprehensive high schools, Timpview is ranked 4th. The school utilizes a 5-90-100-100 goal system to drive student success. This includes a goal for a 5% increase in reading proficiency from 9th to 10th grade, a target the school reportedly exceeded with a 10% increase. The school also aims for 90% of 9th graders to be on track for graduation and for 100% of students to complete an advanced learning experience and identify an adult at the school they can go to for help.
The school has implemented several initiatives to support student advancement. The School Community Council has invested funds to cover the costs of the first AP exam for 9th graders and to pay for all concurrent enrollment tuition for Timpview students. This investment in concurrent enrollment resulted in students earning 6,040 credits during the most recent period. Additionally, the school offers 25 AP courses and 54 concurrent enrollment distance education classes.
Tu’ua attributed the school's success to a culture of ability and strong Tier 1 instruction. The school focuses on removing barriers by not requiring prerequisites for advanced courses and providing bridge programs for students entering AP classes. The school also maintains a content literacy initiative to support reading skills across all subject areas.
