The Sevier County Commission held a meeting on August 10, 2026, to address several regional issues, including fire recovery discussions and new infrastructure agreements, according to meeting minutes released August 28.
Commissioner Jensen reported on a meeting with the Governor and other officials regarding recovery efforts for the fire in the Beaver and Fillmore areas. Commissioner Johnson noted discussions regarding support for local grazers and reported on cattle killed in the fire.
Regarding infrastructure, the Commission unanimously approved a Public Wi-Fi Hotspot Cooperative Agreement with the Utah Department of Transportation. The agreement involves UDOT installing a hotspot at the trailhead just north of Marysvale Canyon, with the County responsible for power costs once the facility is operational.
The Commission approved an assignment order with Jones & DeMille Engineering for a feasibility study and design for the Monroe to Central Valley Bike Path, with a total fee up to $10,000. Additionally, the Board approved a list of personal property items to be declared surplus and authorized for disposal via auction.
In tourism matters, the Commission approved recommended expenditures from the Tourism Advisory Board, but with one exception. They reduced a requested $10,000 award for the Sevier County Magazine to $5,000 to allow for further discussion involving the Salina Chamber of Commerce and other businesses.
The Commission denied several tax abatement requests because the applicants' prior year income exceeded allowable limits. They also declined a request to purchase two County-owned lots in the Elsinore Addition Subdivision, stating an intent to work with the R6 Regional Council Self-Help program for those lots instead.
Commissioner Jensen reported that Monroe City has begun drilling a new well following a grant intended to address culinary water access issues caused by recent fire and flooding in the area.
