Maximum Daily Water Use Text Amendment
The Council permanently approved the temporary land use regulation implemented earlier this year in response to worsening drought conditions. The ordinance limits daily water use to 200,000 gallons daily for new non-residential properties, with exemptions for essential community uses, such as hospitals and schools.
“This ordinance gives Salt Lake City a lasting standard for water use, so growth and essential services can both be protected,” said Council Member Erika Carlsen. “That’s the kind of planning residents expect from us.”

Initial Discussion of Legislative Intents for
Fiscal Year 2026-27
The Council hosted the first of three planned work session briefings to discuss Legislative Intents, which are adopted as part of the annual budget.
During the briefing, Departments may share updated information about the Council’s request. Public Services asked whether current work on local historic district signage satisfies its intent or requires additional planning. Council Members Young and Dugan indicated quick alignment, and generally asked for updates and amendments to improve intents throughout the year.

Council Rezoning Proposal for 1990 and 2002 South 500 East
The Council held a public hearing on a proposal to rezone two properties at 1990 and 2002 South 500 East for a proposed 22-unit townhome development. After hearing from several residents, the Council closed the hearing and deferred action to a future meeting.

Budget Amendment No.1, which includes funding for the next steps in Fleet Block and 9 Line improvements, new infrastructure at Glendale Park and more. (Watch)

Homelessness Update:
Homeless Resource Centers saw a functionally full occupancy rate in August.
The City’s next Homeless Resource Fair will be held October 9 at Library Square. Community Court will continue each Monday and Tuesday at 702 W 200 South.
