Summit County eyes second Highland Estates land purchase
The county may acquire a second chunk of land between Highland Estates and the Silver Creek highway interchange for open space. Highway 40. Summit County Summit County bought the parcel highlighted in red on the left this summer. Wednesday, it could decide to acquire the one on the right, too.

Summit County starts multi-year wetland restoration project at Ure Ranch - Park Record
The Summit County government started what will likely be a multi-year process to restore wetland habitats on a portion of the 835-acre Ure Ranch property known as “The Swamp,” which was previously drained to accommodate grazing cattle. “The beauty of wetlands are that they’re natural recharge areas for groundwater,” explained County Lands and Natural Resources Director Jess Kirby.

Summit County resident, a former USA Climbing coach, could spend up to 15 years in prison for child pornography - Park Record
Matthew Maddison, a Summit County resident and former USA Climbing coach, will spend up to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to possessing sexually explicit videos involving children. Last week, Third District Judge Richard Mrazik determined Maddison should serve prison time for the second-degree felony charge.

High prices are driving low homeownership, but Summit, Wasatch officials see paths forward - Park Record
Summit and Wasatch counties are Utah’s most expensive housing markets, according to a new report from the Kem C. Utah ranks as the 10th most expensive state in the nation for single-family homes, with a median sales price of $559,900. Summit County saw a 5% decrease in median single-family home sales price from the first quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026.
