Ken Sleight, the river guide and activist who inspired the character Seldom Seen Smith in Edward Abbey's novel "The Monkey Wrench Gang," died early Friday morning, friends said. He was 97. "We'll miss him — because there was no one else like him," friend and writer Stephen Trimble wrote on Facebook.
