“When We Were Boats,” a play based on two men’s 1955 swim down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, sold about 750 tickets during its Oct. 1-4 run at Moab’s Star Hall, according to writer and director Sam Van Wetter.

Chip Thomas, artist behind Moab murals, named MacArthur Fellow

Chip Thomas, the physician-turned-public-artist whose black-and-white photo murals went up on two Moab buildings in 2023, was named a MacArthur Fellow on Sept. He’s back in town Oct. 8 for a Moab Museum panel on the Buffalo Soldiers. Nearly 1,200 people have been named MacArthur Fellows since the first awards in 1981, according to the foundation.
