Nebo School District has initiated a formal study to consider the potential closure of Cherry Creek Elementary in Springville. The move is being driven by long-term declining enrollment patterns and a strategic effort to better utilize district resources and facilities.
The decision follows years of significant shifts in enrollment. By consolidating the student population into neighboring schools, the district stated it could improve average building utilization from approximately 64% to approximately 76%.
The district is working with municipal leaders to ensure the facility remains a vital part of the neighborhood. Springville City has been exploring options to purchase the historic gymnasium attached to Cherry Creek and the Springville Art Museum.
Springville City has also been looking into additional city facility options and expressed interest in taking ownership of the building starting in the summer of 2027. The district and Springville City currently share the Cherry Creek space, as the parking lot and buildings are connected.
Nebo School District stated it is committed to a transparent process involving parents, teachers, and residents. A formal public hearing is scheduled for October 2026 at Cherry Creek Elementary.
