Principal's Message

Next week, Provo School District will observe Attendance Awareness Week. Show Up Provo! is designed to call attention to the importance of attendance and its impact on our Panthers' educational experience.

Just like anything else, learning is an acquired skill. We practice sports, music, languages, writing, and art. The more time we dedicate to what matters, the better we become. That is why we emphasize attendance here at Shoreline, because your students matter so much to us! We want them to develop the skills to be self-directed learners and know where to find answers to their academic questions, all of which is easier to practice when they are physically here with us. We want them to know they are valued, seen, and important. Just like any team or ensemble, when your student is missing, the entire group can see and feel the difference.

By making attendance a priority for your family we are able to partner with you to help your student best prepare for success now, in their soon-to-be high school experience and beyond. We understand that life happens outside of school. Thank you for all those efforts to schedule appointments before or after school and to keep out of school time to a minimum when it isn't possible.

So Show Up, Shoreline, and help us make this school year the best one yet.

Panther Way Spotlight

Avanoa Faumui was nominated for following the Panther Way because he is always there to cheer you up by making jokes and listening to you. If you are struggling with an assignment, he will help you. Avanoa is really a nice person to be around because he is funny, kind and there to help you. He is a good example of living our Panther Way values.

Daisy Wilbur was nominated for following the Panther Way because she is really kind. If you ever need help, she is there to help you. She is always on task in her classes. Daisy is focused on doing well in school and being a good example. You can talk to Daisy about anything you are struggling with. She will keep your struggles private and not tell others. You can trust her.

Caroline Rodriguez was nominated for following the Panther Way because she is helpful. Caroline is a peer tutor and helps other students by showing them what to do in class and being a true friend to them. She is kind and supportive. Caroline is also very responsible and respectful. She follows directions and pays attention in her classes. Caroline is a great person.

Jose Guerrero was recognized for following the Panther Way. He was kind by letting a fellow student know that her backpack was unzipped. He was observed in his class doing his work when other students were talking instead of working. Jose went above and beyond in Ms. Gillian's class by not only cleaning the tables but also the chairs. This shows how responsible Jose is. He has also been observed in his Language Arts class being respectful by answering questions and trying to do his best.

Student Government Applications

Applications are due by 3:00 pm on Wednesday, September 30th. Turn them in at the Main Office with Mrs. Molinaro when complete.

Missed the meeting? Email carolg@provo.edu for details.

Student Check In / Check Out

Shoreline uses the RAPTOR electronic identification system to allow visitors into the building. This will include parents coming to check out students during school hours. Please be prepared for the process to take up to 15 minutes and plan your arrival time accordingly. Additionally, please note that anyone wanting access to the building or wanting to check out a student during school hours will need government issued ID each and every time. Thank you in advance for your collaboration with District policy to help assure all our students are safe when in our care.

Shoreline's Absence and Attendance Policy

When your student is sick, has a doctor's appointment, has a family trip, etc. it is very important that you contact the school to excuse the absences within ONE WEEK of the absence.

Choose ONE of the following ways to excuse an absence:

Call the school at 801-374-4980 and choose option #2.

Send an email to smsattendance@provo.edu

Turn in a doctor's note to the Attendance office

You may need to leave a voice message when calling the Attendance Office as our Attendance Secretary, Veronica Peterson, is often on the other line with a parent or assisting them personally in her office.

When you leave a message by phone, email, or request a note from your doctor, please be sure to include the following information:

Your name

The student's name

The day/days you need to excuse your student

The reason for the absence

A phone number where you can be reached

Please allow 24 hours for the excused absence to appear in PowerSchool. If you have already contacted us to excuse the absence, please disregard any robocalls received for that absence.

Questions regarding student grades or missing assignments should be directed to teachers or school counselors. (See links below to send a message through the Shoreline's website.)

Calendar & Other Information

You can find the Shoreline Public Calendar as well as other useful information on our website at shoreline.provo.edu. For your convenience, a calendar magnet will be sent home with students for quick reference of days with no school or early release.

Closed Campus / Food Deliveries

In order to ensure the safety of all students, Shoreline Middle School is a closed campus. All students are required to be checked out of school prior to leaving during school hours and must check back in upon return. This includes leaving for lunch with a parent/guardian. We will only check out students to legal parents/guardians and those listed as emergency contacts in PowerSchool unless prior arrangements have been made directly with the Attendance Office.

Additionally, we do not allow food deliveries to students from anyone other than an immediate family member. You are welcome to drop food off in the office for us to take to your student during their lunch period. We will reject any commercial delivery services for safety reasons.
