Alpine City scheduled a Memorial Day Ceremony for May 25, 2026, at 8:00 am at the Alpine City Cemetery. The event was intended to honor military veterans and those who died while serving in the U.S. military.
Ceremony Program Details
The military-style ceremony included an honor guard raising the flag to half mast, remarks from a military chaplain, and a non-denominational prayer. The program also featured recognition of living veterans in Alpine, a military medley sing-along led by the Alpine Youth Council, and the playing of Taps.
Post-Ceremony Refreshments and Participation
Light refreshments were provided following the ceremony, offering an opportunity for residents to meet with local veterans. Veterans were encouraged to wear uniforms or military memorabilia. Those wishing to present service flags at the ceremony could contact Lynn Higgins.
Poppy Garden Opening and Volunteers
Additionally, the Lambert Park Poppy Garden was scheduled to open May 21st. The city sought volunteers for the Poppy Patrol to help guide visitors and maintain order during peak hours. Shifts were available in the morning and evening for approximately 10 days.
