Baxter Aerospace is preparing for a new phase of growth through a planned expansion in Washington City. The company intends to add approximately 30,000 square feet of space to increase capacity for current operations and future growth.
The expansion is intended to bring additional investment and employment to Washington City. According to Washington City Mayor Kress Staheli, the company's growth serves as an example of the private investment the city seeks to encourage to develop a more diverse employment base. Jeff Baxter of Baxter Aerospace stated that the expansion positions the company for its next stage of growth and noted the importance of the support received from Washington City, the State of Utah, and regional partners.
To support this expansion, Baxter Aerospace is pursuing a Rural Economic Development Tax Increment Financing (REDTIF) incentive through the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity. Jen Wakeland, a Business Development Director with the office, said the company represents an innovative type of business that contributes to Utah’s diverse economy. Washington County Commissioner Adam Snow noted that the company's growth shows the opportunity to build a stronger economy in Washington County by creating skilled career opportunities for local residents and students.
Baxter Aerospace has a long history in the region, having relocated operations to Southern Utah and initially using a small, temporary assembly space near Washington Dam Road. The company has expanded incrementally within the area. Washington City Economic Development Director Rusty Hughes stated that economic development involves helping existing businesses find a path to their next stage of growth rather than just recruiting new companies.
Baxter Aerospace is currently finalizing plans for the new site. Further information regarding the specific expansion timeline and the final location will be announced once plans are finalized.
