The City of Roy announced in a June 1, 20ng, 2026, update that residents must obtain permits for various structural changes, including basement finishes, additions, hot tubs, and decks. According to the city, any owner intending to enlarge, repair, or change the occupancy of a building—or replace electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing systems—is required to apply for a permit through the building official.
Online Applications and Exemptions
Roy City allows online applications for several residential single-family and two-family dwelling permits, such as patio covers, detached garages exceeding 200 square feet, and swimming pools or hot tubs deeper than 24 inches. The city also noted that certain small structures, such as detached accessory buildings under 200 square feet and 10 feet in height, do not require a permit provided they meet all setback and stormwater runoff requirements.
Grantsville Permit Portal Details
Grantsville City manages its construction oversight through the IWorq permit portal, which residents can use to apply for building permits or schedule inspections. The Grantsville Building Department is located within the Public Works building at 336 West Main Street and operates from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

For complex projects, Roy City maintains specific design criteria including a ground snow load of 40 psf and a frost depth of 30 inches below grade.
