The Grantsville City Planning Commission approved several amendments to the city's Land Use Ordinance during a meeting held on August 4, 2026, according to a report published August 19. The commission voted unanimously to recommend expanding micro-entrepreneurship as a conditional use to all zoning designations listed in Chapter 15 of the ordinance.
During the meeting, the commission reviewed a proposal to add the R-1-21 Zone as a designation for micro-entrepreneurship. Planning and Zoning Administrator Shelby Moore explained that micro-entrepreneurship is currently allowed as a conditional use within the RM-7 Zone. Following discussion, Commissioner Cameron Moulton moved to recommend approval for the amendment with a modification to apply the change to all zoning designations within Chapter 15.
The commission also approved recommendations to amend Chapters 2, 6, and 7 of the Land Use Ordinance. Changes to Chapter 2 regarding home occupations remove the minimum lot frontage requirement, replacing it with a requirement for legal access via a public or private road. Amendments to Chapter 6 address driveway approaches, including requirements for a 12-foot minimum separation and new location standards relative to side property lines. Amendments to Chapter 7 revise the process for referring Conditional Use Permits to the Planning Commission based on whether public comments identify potential compliance issues.
Community Development Director Bill Cobabe reported that the city has not received applications or plans for data centers, but staff is working to develop proactive regulations and performance standards. Cobabe noted that staff is coordinating with Tooele County, which is also working on regulations for such uses.
The meeting included a discussion regarding a potential joint work session between the City Council and the Planning Commission to discuss a possible nuclear lifecycle innovation campus. City Council Member Rhett Butler suggested the session could occur on September 29 or 30 to provide public information on the topic.
