The Eagle Mountain City Council recognized deputies from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Eagle Mountain Division during a meeting on May 5, 2026. Sgt. Hickman, Deputy Breuning, and Deputy Gilstrap were honored for their actions in safely locating a missing resident's daughter earlier this spring.
In March, the child was reported missing, which triggered an immediate response from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived shortly after the call and organized a coordinated search involving K-9 units, heat-seeking drones, and additional personnel. The search also included public notifications through news outlets and reverse 911 calls.
The child was found safe within a few hours due to the swift response and tips provided by the community.
During the council meeting, Chief Deputy Erik Knutzen read portions of a letter sent by the resident to Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith. In the letter, the resident expressed gratitude for the speed, precision, and professionalism of the deputies, noting that the response made an immeasurable difference during a time of fear.
Chief Deputy Knutzen stated that this type of coordinated response is the norm for the Eagle Mountain Division and expressed pride in the deputies involved. The City Council recognition celebrates both the safe return of the child and the efforts of law enforcement and community members.
