Every reader has their own path—and finding the right book can make all the difference.
This September, our ProvoREADS theme is Discover Your Reading Path. We’re encouraging students to explore the books, topics, and stories that spark their curiosity and make them want to keep reading.
When children have opportunities to choose books they enjoy, reading becomes more than an assignment—it becomes something they look forward to. Families can help children discover their reading path by exploring classroom and school libraries, visiting the Provo City Library, trying a new genre or topic, and simply giving children the freedom to choose what interests them.
September Family Reading Challenge: Visit a Library
This month’s challenge is simple: Visit your school or public library together!
Give each child time to browse and choose something that catches their attention. While you’re there, you can:
Explore a section you’ve never visited before.
Ask a librarian for a book recommendation.
Try a new author, series, topic, or genre.
Get a library card.
Make choosing library books a regular family activity.
There is no single path to becoming a reader. The goal is to help every child discover the books that make them excited to turn the next page.
Save the Date: Utah Reads Statewide Read-A-Thon
Our reading journey continues into October!
Join Governor Spencer Cox and First Lady Abby Cox for the Utah Reads Statewide Read-A-Thon on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Provo City School District students and employees will participate from 9:30–10:30 a.m., joining readers across Utah for an hour dedicated to reading and celebrating literacy.
Families and community members are encouraged to join in the excitement! Reach out to your school for details about how your school will participate.
