According to a report published August 28, Utah is currently managing 16 active wildfires that have burned a total of 267,000 acres. The data, pulled from official National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) incident reports, also indicates that four evacuation orders are currently active.
In Millard County, the Widemouth 2 Fire has burned 129,741 acres and is 93% contained. The fire began on July 27, 2026. Other significant fires include the Cottonwood Fire in Beaver County, which covers 97,464 acres and is 95% contained, and the Rocky Canyon Fire in Morgan County, which covers 16,464 acres and is 98% contained.
Additional active incidents include the Brushy Canyon Fire in Box Elder County, which is 0% contained across 9,600 acres, the Tom Creek Fire in Tooele County with 4,991 acres and 10% containment, and the Slough Canyon Fire in Grand County with 4,500 acres and 10% containment. Three smaller incidents under 10 acres each are also being monitored.
Authorities advise that fire locations are marked at the reported incident point and may not represent the current edge of a spreading fire. In the event of an emergency, residents should follow official orders from local authorities and call 911 for immediate assistance.
