Applications for the Cache County School District 2026-27 community preschool program are now closed, according to district information, though families with children who will be four years old by September 1, 2026, may still join a waitlist for potential openings.
Preschool Enrollment and Costs
The community preschool program is designed to prepare students for kindergarten through social interaction, structured play, and foundational academic activities. Enrollment priority is given to students who qualify for free or reduced lunch and those who meet specific identified risk factors, with remaining spots filled via a lottery system.
Tuition for the program varies based on attendance, with options for two days per week at $125 per month or four days per week at $175 per month. A one-time $50 supply fee is also required. The district noted that families meeting specific income guidelines or possessing certain risk factors may qualify for fee waivers or reduced tuition based on household size and gross income.
Preschool classes are held at several locations, including Millville, Nibley, Greenville, Summit, and Lewiston elementary schools, as well as Mountain Crest and Sky View high schools. The district does not provide bus transportation for the program, requiring parents to provide their own transport. Typical session hours include morning blocks from 9:05 a.m. to 11:35 a.m. and afternoon blocks from 1:05 p.m. to 3:35 p.m.
Special Education Screenings
The district is also conducting special education preschool screenings to identify potential developmental delays in children aged 3 to 5 who live within district boundaries. Screenings were scheduled for Sept. 10, Sept. 11, and Sept. 14 at the Legacy Campus Professional Development Building in North Logan.
The screening process involves an initial assessment of areas including speech, academics, behavior, vision, hearing, and gross or fine motor skills. If a child demonstrates a delay, a second appointment for in-depth testing is scheduled to determine if they qualify for special education services, which are provided at no charge to qualifying families.
Kindergarten Registration
For students transitioning to kindergarten, eligibility is restricted to children turning five on or before Sept. 1, 2026, per state law. The district offers various class formats, including full-day and half-day options. Half-day classes are created if 19 or more parents at a specific school request the option prior to March 31.
The district reported that for Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs, open spots are currently available for Chinese, French, and Portuguese, while the Spanish program is currently at a waitlist status.
