The Southern Utah University cross country teams competed at the University of Oregon's Bill Dellinger Invitational on Friday, Oct. 9, according to a report published Oct. 9. The men's team secured a seventh-place finish, and the women's team finished in eighth place.
In the men's 8K race, the Thunderbirds finished with a team score of 205. Todd Yeates led the team with a 24:42.4 to finish 28th. Seth Sonerholm and Jonah Denison also recorded times within the top 50, finishing 45th and 47th, respectively. Other finishers for the men included Kohl Sanders in 54th, Daniel Martinez in 62nd, Oliver James in 66th, Richard Crane in 86th, and Ezra Nelson in 90th. Joshua Hernandez did not finish the race.
The women's team finished the 6K race in eighth place with a team score of 201. Junior Angelina Lione led the runners with a 19th-place finish and a time of 21:08.9. Audrey Hale took 30th place with a time of 21:31.0, followed by Aspen Hacker in 32nd with a time of 21:32.9. The remaining finishers were Tara Bouck in 64th, Leah Larsen in 72nd, Nixie Killpack in 79th, Kennedy Swain in 91st, and Brooklyn Tarr in 97th. Bella Evans did not finish the race.
Head Coach Isaac Wood stated that the team had the opportunity to race on one of the nicest cross country courses in the NCAA. Wood said he was pleased with the team's approach and efforts regarding their objectives and expressed interest in the upcoming Pre Nationals.
The men's team will travel to Terre Haute, IN, on Oct. 16, to compete in the Pre-Nationals Invitational hosted by Indiana State University. The women's team will prepare for the Big Sky Championship, which is scheduled for Oct. 30 in Flagstaff, AZ.
