The Utah Mammoth rebounded from a previous loss to the Boston Bruins on Thursday by defeating the Buffalo Sabres 4-1 on Saturday. The victory concludes a five-game East Coast road trip for the Mammoth, who now head back to Salt Lake City with momentum.
Kailer Yamamoto made his season debut during the game against the Sabres after Michael Carcone suffered an injury during Thursday's matchup with the Bruins. Yamamoto scored his first goal of the season to tie the game at one after receiving a pass from Barrett Hayton, who retrieved a puck from Mikhail Sergachev. Yamamoto also contributed to two other goals, including an assist on a goal by Anders Lee and a screen for a goal by John Marino. Head coach André Tourigny stated that Yamamoto is an everyday player who deserves credit for his performance.
Defenseman John Marino recorded two points and a plus-one rating during the win. Marino scored a power play goal from near the blueline, which was the first goal scored by the Mammoth's second unit on the man advantage. The team's power play operated at a 40% success rate during the game, including a goal by Nick Schmaltz, which was his sixth of the season. Schmaltz's goal followed a cross-crease pass from Logan Cooley.
The Mammoth's victory marks their third win in five games on the road trip, bringing their overall record to 4-2-0. This performance follows a 6-1 loss to the Bruins on Thursday. The team showed physicality during the game, including a fight between MacKenzie Weegar and Peyton Krebs.
The Mammoth will play their second home game of the season this coming Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
