The Terrace Plaza Playhouse is currently hosting the bluegrass musical Bright Star, which is scheduled to run through Nov. 14. In a review published October 9, critic Caril Jennings described the production as a joyous and toe-tapping experience.
The musical was written and composed by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. The production is directed by Bryant Larsen, with choreography by Kaylee Wheeler and musical direction provided by Brooks Teeples. The story is set in the mountains of North Carolina and follows the life of a character named Alice, who becomes a successful publisher after a period of hardship involving young love and a child lost to a river.
The production features an acoustic sound design by Sheldon Cheshire. The musical elements include bluegrass music and square dancing. The plot follows Alice and Jimmy Ray as their lives intersect through various life stages, eventually leading to a reunion between mother, father, and son.
Terrace Plaza Playhouse is located at 4700 S, Washington Terrace, UT 84405. The venue's website is TerracePlazaPlayhouse.com. Bryant Larsen serves as the public relations person for the theater in addition to directing this production.
