The Iron County Board of Commissioners scheduled a public meeting for August 24, 2026, at the Iron County Courthouse in Parowan. The meeting was set to begin at 9:00 a.m. and included several items for discussion and possible approval.
The agenda for the August 24 meeting included a public hearing regarding a proposed zone change for a property at 3831 W 4000 N, Cedar City. The proposal, presented by Brett Hamilton for applicant Scott Day, sought to change the zoning from RA-20 (Rural Agriculture 20 Acre) to R-1 (Residential 1 Acre) on approximately 20 acres.
Another public hearing was scheduled to address 2026 mid-year budget adjustments and the possible approval of Resolution 2026-5 to adopt budget amendments, presented by Lucas Little. Additionally, the board was set to discuss the approval of the Utah Indigent Defense Grant Number 27D18 covering July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, and several contracts for positions including a public defense administrator, public defender, and social worker.
Other business items included the possible approval of Resolution 2026-4 to amend property into the Iron Springs Inland Port Project Area, as requested by Danny Stewart, and a review of a proposed annexation into Cedar City by Vantrust.
The meeting also addressed several personnel matters. Requests for promotions included a deputy to corporal in the Sheriff's Office, Eli Brown from Landfill Technician 1 to Landfill Technician 2, Michael Mecham from Deputy 1 to Deputy 2, and three individuals in the Roads department from Maintenance 1 to Maintenance 2: Kobe Brunson, Braxton Brindley, and Chris Copeland.
New hires and transfers were also on the agenda, including Stephanie Hunter as a part-time legal assistant, LaTonya Heaton as a full-time administrative assistant, Evan Gray as a seasonal outdoor maintenance technician, Jennifer Bishop as a full-time judicial assistant, and Trishelle Parsons as a full-time Deputy 1. Justin Hatch was also listed for re-hire as a part-time reserve deputy.
The meeting was open to the public and could be viewed electronically via the Iron County Commission Live YouTube channel. Public comments were limited to three minutes per speaker for items not on the agenda.
