Heber City, in partnership with the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce and The Community Alliance for Main Street, announced phase three of the Heber’s Art in Public Places initiative. The initiative aims to support the transformation of historic downtown Heber into a world class destination.
The project seeks an artist or artist team to create a mural for the west facing wall of the Alpine Lodge, located at 90 N. Main in Heber City. The wall consists of painted metal siding and measures approximately 31 feet 3.5 inches in length and 8 feet 8 inches in height.
The site is located across the street from the Tabernacle Building, which was built in 1889, and is visible to approximately 30,000 vehicles daily. The initiative seeks artwork that considers themes such as local mountain and forest scenes, wildlife, outdoor sports, local historical or nostalgic images, or themes of welcoming visitors.
The selection committee will evaluate designs based on artistic quality, scale, imagery effectiveness, relevance to project themes, and opportunities for community engagement through photo opportunities. While mural cost is a consideration, it is not a top factor in the selection process.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and provide a portfolio with at least two previous work samples and a detailed sketch or colored replica of the proposed mural. The application deadline was May 16, 2022.
Heber City manages the preparation of the wall and scaffolding for the project. The selected artist is required to execute an agreement detailing the terms of their engagement.
