Monte Vista Elementary celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with a night of activities for students and families, according to a September 25 report from the Jordan School District. The event featured mooncakes, yo-yos, lantern crafting, and a tai chi demonstration.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a Chinese culture harvest festival held when the moon is at its fullest and brightest around the autumn equinox. While the whole school was invited, the celebration was noted as being especially fun for students in the school's Chinese Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program.
Students in Monte Vista's DLI program spend half of the school day learning in English and half the day learning in Chinese, which includes studying Chinese history and culture.
