The Weber State University Mount Ogden Hike tradition will take place on Saturday, Sept. 2026, at Snowbasin. The event includes a variety of hiking difficulty levels and maintains long-standing university customs.
Participants can choose from several hiking routes depending on their skill level. One option involves hiking the Snowbasin service roads to the saddle or summit, which is described as a challenging 8.4-mile round trip. A shorter, though still strenuous, 2.8-mile route is available for $29 per person using the Snowbasin gondola.
Unguided options include a very tough 10.2-mile round trip via Taylor Canyon and a long, tough 12-mile route via Beus Canyon. For those participating in guided groups at Snowbasin, there are three free options: a speedy group for experienced hikers, a scenery-focused group with periodic stops, and a slow-paced group for first-timers.
Transportation is available via a 15-passenger van that meets at 7:15 a.m. at the Outdoor Adventure and Welcome Center for those not driving themselves to Snowbasin. To confirm transportation, individuals may email the Outdoor Program.
The event features a traditional program held at the saddle, where participants pay tribute to the Weber Academy hikers of 1922. The program includes speeches by distinguished guests, raffle prizes, and the singing of the WSU Fight Song and Purple and White.
Registration for the hike requires pre-registration and the completion of an online waiver. Participants are encouraged to plan for the full duration of the event and not leave the mountain before 3 p.m.
