A Clearfield man was airlifted to a hospital after shots were fired during an encounter with police late Friday afternoon in Syracuse, according to a report published October 9.
Devin Rogers, assistant Clearfield Police Chief, told reporters on the scene that the incident was an officer-involved critical incident and will be investigated by a Davis County team.
The investigation began after dispatch received a call at approximately 9 a.m. Friday. A woman reported that her spouse was armed and using a firearm to compel her to do what he wanted.
While the woman was not reported to be physically injured, the call triggered a search for the armed man, who had left Clearfield and was believed to be in Syracuse. Officers located the man in Syracuse between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
According to Rogers, officers attempted to communicate with the subject, but he was non-compliant. Due to reports regarding the firearm, a shelter in place was established for the community, and officers evacuated several nearby homes as a precaution.
Following a period of negotiations, shots were fired. Rogers stated he has no information regarding whether any officers were hit or the specific nature of the suspect's injuries.
A Davis County officer-involved critical incident team is expected to investigate the encounter.
