The US Youth Soccer National Championships have arrived in Utah Valley, making Epic Sports Park the site of the largest event the venue has ever hosted. Over the next ten days, more than 4,000 players from 287 teams are competing on the fields located in Utah County.
The championship is serving as a significant economic driver for the region. Abby Owens of Explore Utah Valley stated that the event has filled hotels throughout the area and increased visitors to local shops, restaurants, and the Provo Airport.
Owens noted that organizers can track the economic footprint through hotel bookings, dining, and gear purchases, citing an estimated $16 million economic impact for hosting the event. She mentioned that the effort to bring the championships from Orlando to Provo was part of a goal to elevate Epic Sports Park to a level capable of competing with major destinations like Disney World.
Teams participating in the tournament are traveling from various states, including Texas, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and New York. Many participants are turning their trips into family vacations, exploring local outdoor recreation and the more than 70 local restaurants.
The success of this event has highlighted Utah Valley's potential as a premier destination for sports tourism. Owens expressed optimism regarding the future, stating that the measurable impact of the championships shows that people are discovering Provo and Utah County.
