Southern Utah University is celebrating ten years of partnership with the Great Basin Observatory, a collaboration that supports hands-on astronomy research, enhances student learning, and promotes dark sky preservation across the region.
The university has also received national recognition for student satisfaction and has been named a 2026-2027 College of Distinction for its student-first mentorship and high-value education.
In recent academic developments, NASA selected Southern Utah University to lead a statewide hub connecting students to hands-on aerospace and space exploration careers. Additionally, the university's Master of Accountancy program earned national recognition for being ranked best for job security, noting a 96.5% graduate employment rate.
Southern Utah University also announced the launch of a new Bachelor of Science in Professional Sales, scheduled for fall 2026. This program aims to provide hands-on training for high-impact careers. Furthermore, the university is launching a flexible seven-week Salesforce Sales Foundations course starting Sept. 14 to assist with career readiness.
The university has also seen significant leadership appointments. Mary Jo Anderson was appointed as the new Vice President of Finance and Administration, effective Sept. 1, 2026. Additionally, Dr. Rebecca Bloom was named Executive Director of the Southern Utah Museum of Art.
The university continues to engage with the community through various initiatives, including the annual One Utah Summit and the annual Thunderbird Awards, which honors students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
