Nine nursing units from across the Utah-based MountainStar Healthcare network have been recognized for excellence as part of HCA Healthcare's annual program. This year's awards coincide with the tenth anniversary of the program, titled A Decade of Distinction.
The Nurse Forward strategy
The Unit of Distinction Awards serve as a component of HCA Healthcare’s Nurse Forward strategy, which honors top-performing nursing units across the national network.
Top performing nursing units
Five units at MountainStar Healthcare facilities earned Unit of Distinction Awards, placing them within the highest-performing five percent of nursing units across HCA Healthcare. Ogden Regional Medical Center’s Behavioral Health Unit received the highest overall ranking for its care area.
Other award recipients
Other units receiving the distinction include the operating room at Lakeview Hospital, the emergency department at Cache Valley Hospital, and both the emergency room and nursery at Mountain View Hospital.
Honorable mention designations
Additionally, four units earned honorable mention designations for ranking in the top six to ten percent of their respective care areas. These include the post-anesthesia care unit at Lakeview, the intensive care units at both Lone Peak Hospital and Timpanogos Regional Hospital, and the obstetrics and gynecology unit at Mountain View Hospital.
Criteria for unit selection
Units are selected based on measurable performance in areas such as leadership, advocacy, consistency in nursing practice, and the ability to improve patient care through scale.
Leadership statements on excellence
Erica Rossitto, senior vice president and chief nurse executive of HCA Healthcare, stated that the program recognizes units that exemplify a commitment to high-quality care at the bedside. Sabrina Braun, chief nurse executive for MountainStar Healthcare, expressed pride in the recognition, noting that the nurses are central to the organization's high-quality care.
