Utah Athletics has announced a relocation of select seats within the Jon M. Huntsman Center for the upcoming 2026-27 athletics season. The changes impact all four sports competing in the arena, most notably returning the men's and women's basketball benches to the west side.
Impact on team and student sections
With the team benches moving to the west side, several other groups will also relocate. This includes certain floor seats, the band, and the MUSS student section. The move aims to unify the MUSS in sections T and U for basketball and volleyball, and section U for gymnastics.
Coaches' views on homecourt advantage
Runnin' Utes head coach Alex Jensen stated that returning the benches to the west side is symbolic of the program's direction and honors its history. Similarly, women's basketball head coach Gavin Petersen noted that these changes are intended to enhance the competitive homecourt advantage by providing a better game day experience for the MUSS.
New student entry and housing updates
To support this transition, students will have a dedicated entry at Door 1, located west of Kahlert Village and the new Trailhead residence halls. The opening of the Trailhead halls this fall will bring the total number of beds near the arena to over 2900.
Benefits of a unified MUSS
The relocation of the MUSS is intended to create a more impactful environment for student-athletes. MUSS President Kai Cruz expressed excitement about finding a unified home for all arena sports. Utah volleyball head coach Alyssa D'Errico and Red Rocks head coach Carly Dockendorf also noted that the centralized student section will elevate the atmosphere and provide a competitive edge.
Specific seat changes for ticket holders
Specific seat changes are required for certain ticket holders. Those in sections T and U must move to sections F, G, or H. Additionally, season ticket holders in the first four rows of Section Q will have options to relocate due to Big 12 Conference requirements regarding visiting team seating behind their bench.
Utah Athletics staff are currently communicating with individuals in affected areas. Affected season ticket holders will have a special online relocation window to select new seats before the standard renewal process begins. Once the renewal period concludes, unrenewed seats will be made available for upgrades or new purchases.
