Granite School District released a parent update on August 17 outlining several upcoming opportunities and district procedures for the new school year. The update included information regarding youth music programs, meal applications, and safety protocols for students and visitors.
The Granite Youth Symphony is inviting students to join its Junior and Senior Youth Symphony programs to strengthen musical skills. The 2026–27 season was scheduled to begin Wednesday, September 2, with rehearsals held from 4:00–5:30 p.m. every Wednesday at Cottonwood High School. Participants are asked to bring their instruments and register in advance through the Granite Youth Symphony webpage.
Families who may qualify for free or reduced-price school meals are encouraged to apply through MySchoolApps or by submitting an application to Granite Nutrition Services. Because eligibility changes every July 1st, a new application must be submitted each school year.
Regarding campus safety, the district reminded visitors that all parents and guardians must check in at the school office and present identification before accessing building areas during school hours. Visitors are required to wear a badge or pass and must check out at the office upon departure. Additionally, the district advised that communication during emergency protocols will occur via text messages and emails, and parents should not come to schools during an emergency unless directed otherwise.
A Truth in Taxation hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, at 6:00 p.m. at the Granite Education Center, located at 2500 S. State Street. This hearing was intended to provide information regarding a proposed property tax increase and allow for public comment.
District officials also highlighted the Parent & Family Resource Guide, which serves as a central location for school calendars, boundary maps, registration information, and academic resources. The guide provides access to information on health services, digital safety, and the parent portal for checking grades and attendance.
Other community and district resources mentioned include the Salt Lake County Library, the Utah Parent Center, and upcoming events such as Chalk the Walk on August 29th.
