OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University will welcome its new president, Chris Mallett, on Aug. 1. Mallett, who earned a bachelor's degree from the university, returns to Weber State with leadership experience from Western Governors University and Northeastern University to focus on growth and innovation.
Mallett described himself as a nontraditional learner who began his college journey at age 22. He noted that his experience earning a degree while working full time informs his leadership approach, particularly regarding students who balance employment and education.
His professional background includes pioneering online competency-based education at Western Governors University and helping build a global campus network and the Roux Institute at Northeastern University. Mallett stated that his leadership style centers on collaborating with faculty and staff to achieve the university's mission.
Looking toward the future, Mallett aims to expand experience-based learning opportunities and build stronger pipelines with regional employers to ensure programs meet the needs of the community and employers. He expressed interest in working alongside faculty to create transformational experiences for students.
Mallett indicated he will be active both in his office in the Miller Administration Building and throughout the campus and community. He noted his personal interest in outdoor activities like skiing, live music, and community events.
Mallett's return to Weber State follows his previous involvement with the institution as a student. He expressed that leading the university is a significant opportunity to join the existing community of faculty and staff.
