A magnitude 2.8 earthquake rattled a rural part of Washington County on Tuesday night. The seismic event occurred at 9:21 p.m. approximately five miles north of New Harmony.
The earthquake originated at a depth of about 6.8 miles. New Harmony, the nearest town to the epicenter, has a population of about 250 residents. No damage has been reported following the quake.
