BYU women’s volleyball dominated Weber State in Ogden on Thursday, winning three consecutive sets. The Cougars held the Wildcats at or under 18 points in each set.The Cougars improved to 7-1 on the season. Their first conference game is set for Sept. 25 against the No. 18 Baylor Bears.Anna Blamires didn’t let the small crowd of 907 ruin her school spirit. She recorded a career-high night with 12 kills, which came on an efficient .526 hitting percentage. Elli Mortensen was not far behind with 10 kills and a .692 on 13 total attacks.In the beginning of the first set, Weber State took the lead. BYU quickly caught up, eventually tying the game at 5-5. After a time-out from the Wildcats, BYU continued to increase the point gap, winning the set 18-25.BYU began the second set slowly, but two digs from Lulu Po’uha changed the trajectory of the set, giving BYU the lead of 8-7 and eventually the win from a kill by Anna Blamires. The final score of the set was 25-16.In the final set, BYU immediately took the lead. The Cougars allowed Weber State to tie with them once with a score of 1-1, but gained the lead shortly after. BYU slowed down toward the end, if you can call it slowing down, and won the match with the third set score ending at 25-17.Kelley Jo Burgess led BYU with seven block assists, and Lulu Po’uha overpowered the Wildcats with her nine kills.The Cougars will come back to Provo on Saturday for a matchup against the Utah State Aggies.
