The Mountain Green Fire Protection District Board of Trustees met on July 13, 2026, to review financial reports, staffing requirements, and upcoming facility expansions, according to meeting notes published July 28.
During the meeting, Trustee Tim Barnes reported that financial accounts are currently in line with the 2026 budget projections. The board noted that mid-year financial statements from Ulrich accounting are expected during the September meeting. Additionally, the first bond payment for a new fire engine was processed on July 1, 2026, at the Bank of Utah.
Chief Brian Brendel reported an increase in the frequency and severity of emergency calls, which leadership attributes to a growing population and increased traffic on I-84. Due to these trends, board leadership anticipates a need for a third firefighter staffed during weekdays. The Chief also noted that Mountain Green is under Stage 2 fire restrictions due to dry conditions and low winter moisture.
Regarding facility updates, the district is working to relocate and upgrade the electrical supply for the fire house expansion. The district is also working with a developer to expand the land available to service the development and the fire station.
The board discussed upcoming trustee transitions, noting that Rici Johnson's term ends in late 2026 and Saul Grasteit will need replacement after moving out of Mountain Green. Discussions regarding elections are scheduled for the next meeting on September 14, 2026.
