The West Jordan City Council has adopted an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2027 annual budget to include specific Community Development Block Grant allocations, according to an ordinance signed on Oct. 15, 2026. The move follows a public hearing held by the City Council on Oct. 13, 2026, regarding the proposed budget changes.
The amendment, designated as Ordinance No. 26-49, adjusts the total city budget for Fiscal Year 2027 from $263,832,720 to $264,307,533. This increase is driven by a $474,813 amendment to the Community Development Block Grant Fund, which previously had no proposed budget due to uncertainty regarding federal funding. The amended CDBG fund will bring its total to $481,738.
The updated CDBG budget includes expenditures for several programs and organizations. According to the ordinance, allocations include $250,000 for Assist Inc. to support efforts for safe, affordable housing, $76,744 for economic development opportunities via BOOST, and $36,300 for the South Valley Sanctuary. Additionally, $22,346 is allocated to the Legal Aid Society and $89,423 is designated for grant administration.
The City Council originally adopted the Fiscal Year 2027 Annual Budget on Aug. 25, 2026. The current fiscal year began on July 1, 2026, and is scheduled to end on June 30, 2027. The ordinance was presented to Mayor Dirk Burton on Oct. 15, 2026, and was signed by him on that same day.
The ordinance was officially certified by City Recorder Tangee Sloan, noting that a summary of the ordinance was published on the Utah Public Notice Website on Oct. 19, 2026.
