A new school in Eagle Mountain was set to open this summer to serve families in the area. Located west of Cedar Valley High School in the Pinnacles at Eagle Mountain development, the yet-to-be-named school was designed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing community.
Principal John Emett, who was set to lead the new school, stated that the project represented an opportunity to bring 13 neighborhoods together into a single school community. Emett noted that while the school would feature modern safety and flow features, its true purpose was to provide a nurturing environment for students to learn and grow.
Students had already begun contributing ideas for the school's official name, which requires approval by the Board of Education. Emett reported receiving significant community support from families in Eagle Mountain, Fairfield, and Cedar Fort, noting that the PTA council was prepared to help guide the process.
The new facility was projected to have an enrollment of more than 800 students in its first year. It was expected to serve as an anchor for an expanding population and would become a new home for families currently attending Cedar Valley Elementary in Cedar Fort.
The Alpine School District Board of Education and the board of the newly created Lake Mountain School District both voted to close Cedar Valley Elementary after the current school year. This decision cited limited capacity at the Cedar Fort school and the potential for better educational opportunities through increased teacher collaboration at the new location.
Construction of the facility was streamlined by using experienced contractors familiar with the district's standard elementary school layout. Kevin Squire, project superintendent for Westland Construction, stated that the building would be outfitted with systems designed for comfort and cost-efficiency.
Final touches were expected to be completed before the first day of school in August.
