Court McGee’s nearly two-decade mixed martial arts career will conclude this Saturday at UFC 332 at the Delta Center in front of a home crowd. The Ogden native, who grew up in Layton and fights out of Provo, is scheduled to face UFC welterweight Eric Nolan in the bout.
The match serves as the final fight of a four-match extension McGee signed with the UFC to end his 19-year career. For the last 16 years, McGee has competed in the promotion, holding a 23-14 overall record within the organization. His career includes notable victories, such as a submission win over Tim Means in Salt Lake City two years ago and a 2016 UFC Fight Night win over Dominique Steele.
McGee's path to the Octagon involved significant personal struggles with addiction. He has spoken openly about being clinically dead for eight minutes following a heroin overdose on Sept. 9, 2005. After achieving sobriety, he won season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter in 2010 while competing on Chuck Liddell’s team. He has since maintained sobriety for over 7,400 days, stating that sobriety helped him build a platform to speak about recovery.
Beyond fighting, McGee is establishing a new chapter through coaching at Agema Jiu Jitsu and MMA in the Provo Towne Centre mall. He also founded The McGee Project in 2015 to provide education regarding addiction to students. McGee is married to Chelsea, and they have three children, including 5-year-old Nash.
Following his retirement from active competition, McGee will focus on mentoring his sons, Isaac and Crew, and continuing his work at Agema Jiu Jitsu and MMA alongside partners Dayne and Amy Aristizabal.
